I have been doing genealogical research since the early 1980's when I was about 12 years old. In 1985, I was awarded a four year scholarship with the Bluefield Chapter 172 - Established November 11, 1897. While in college I even taught a "short course" [not for credit] on genealogical research. BUT it was not until spring 2007 when I became interested in actually joining the UDC.
Since my initial application I have been blessed with the research and resources to have 4 supplementals approved. I am actively persuing a number more and look forward to honoring each of my ancestors. Some of these have been straight forward others have required inovative research.
While I am a member of the Jubal Early UDC chapter 553... I do not have any family that served out of the 58th Virginia or any other unit associated with Franklin County. For that matter, most of my family members were either in central Virginia [Bedford or Campbell counties] or in Tazewell County in Southwest Virginia.
My intention with this blog will be to highlight and discuss each of my ancestors...
I also hope to share my creative endeavors as I am in the process of doing historical knitting that is in the WBTS period. I have started with "sortie" caps from 1858 Goodey's Ladies Book and plan to progress to stockings, shawls and other items. I will post pictures as finished items are available. Since I also spin wool on a spinning wheel, I hope to make these items as authentic as possible. |
